Coming into this game, the Brooklyn Nets were on a two-game winning streak looking for a third win in a row. That did not materialize for them as the Miami Heat overwhelmed them on both sides of the floor. Jimmy Butler was the star man for Miami as he scored 36 points and made an impact on defense with three blocks and a steal.

Mikal Bridges and Lonnie Walker IV showcased their offensive prowess, each contributing 23 points for the Nets, yet they faced challenges on the defensive end. While the team maintained offensive momentum, greater focus on players like Butler and Duncan Robinson, who scored 26 points, was needed.

“You can’t have that momentum shift going into halftime. That’s something we have to learn about. Finishing the half, having the momentum going in your favor in halftime,” coach Jacque Vaughn said in his post-game presser. “We came out and tried to counter-punch. Gotta give them credit.”

The Nets need Ben Simmons to come back

As he’s out with a nerve impingement in his back, Ben Simmons is not playing with the Nets. He plays a crucial role in Coach Jacque Vaughn's system, serving as the primary playmaker and ball-handler. Additionally, he is considered one of their top defenders, leveraging his athleticism, speed, and length to effectively guard wings and big men.

In this game, Spencer Dinwiddie faced challenges as the primary playmaker, and the team sorely missed the impactful presence of the Australian guard, who could contribute both offensively and defensively.

The Nets have stayed afloat amidst injuries but if they want to keep winning, they need Simmons back as soon as possible.

Brooklyn still has the potential to be a good team

The Nets are now sitting at .500 with a 6-6 record but they’ve shown some flashes of brilliance in the first 12 games of the season. Their leading scorer Cameron Thomas and primary offense initiator, Simmons, are still out with injuries, getting them back will be a massive upgrade.

Mikal Bridges has established scoring consistency, particularly in the mid-range game. The return of Cameron Johnson and Nic Claxton has boosted confidence, making them poised to contribute both offensively and defensively.

With the potential they possess, the Nets only require good health and the right mindset, as showcased in their recent performance against the Orlando Magic.

The team will now rest for a couple of days before their big matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers on the 19th of November at Barclays Center.
