Cameron Johnson, part of the 2023 FIBA World Cup Team USA roster, gained valuable insights alongside fellow Net Mikal Bridges during their time with the team.

They had to deal with the pressure of having the target on their backs, and that caught up to them as they finished fourth in the tournament, losing out to against Canada and Germany in the process.

Despite the loss, and limited playing time Cam has learned some significant lessons from his time at the World Cup.

“That’s the business we’re in, you wanna play with the best, you wanna play with our most prestigious team, you best be able to handle the criticism that comes with it,” Cam said on Run Your Race hosted by Theo Pinson. “There’s so many positives to take away from the experience, man. Great coaches, and great teammates. Get to play with guys that you otherwise probably would never play with.”

Getting reps with elite talents

While Johnson may not be the most widely recognized player in the league and is often acknowledged as "just" a solid role player, his time with Team USA, surrounded by star-level players, provided him with valuable learning opportunities.

Before his stint with Team USA, Cam was more of a spot-up shooter which he continues to play like today. However, he has shown some glimpses of putting the ball on the floor and finishing around the rim. That has been missing from his game, and it can open up tons of potential scoring opportunities for him in the future.

Developing under elite coaches

As Cam expanded continued to work on his skill-set, being under the guidance of top-tier coaches during his time repping the national squad was undoubtedly beneficial. The team's head coach, Steve Kerr, brings extensive NBA experience, having transitioned from player to general manager, and now excelling in coaching.

Under the mentorship of two-time champion Erik Spoelstra and coaching guru Tyronn Lue, Cam further honed his skills with Team USA.

Nets fans notice Cam's heightened confidence following exposure to top-tier coaching, resulting in his impressive performance as the starting power forward, progressively improving with each game.
