Jacque Vaughn Optimistic as Cam Thomas Nears Comeback from Ankle Sprain: "He won't need another MRI"
Cam Thomas was already kick-starting his rising star arc earlier this season when the Brooklyn Nets entrusted him to take the franchise's keys to offense. As it is, this was truly a great welcome sight for the 22-year-old as he aims for a major leap in his third year in the Association.
But in the midst of enjoyment at his scoring bloom for Brooklyn, a unfortunate ankle sprain barred Thomas from playing competitive basketball. The injury requires him to be out for at least two weeks, and he can only feel frustrated about his halted emergence.
Before being sidelined, Thomas was on a tear with a team-high 26.9 points average – courtesy of 30+ points in his first three games this season and a career-high 45-point explosion in a losing effort against the Milwaukee Bucks on Nov. 6.
Now at the middle portion of his healing stage since sustaining the injury last Nov. 10, Nets fans are now wondering about the young guard's progress since their team faces inconsistent stretches.
As such, head coach Jacque Vaughn became available in front of the media on Tuesday and served up an important update on Thomas’ recovery.
Right on schedule
According to Vaughn, Thomas continues to make significant progress for a soon return since spraining his left ankle against the Clippers.
Vaughn also pointed out that the third-year guard is heading in the “right direction” in his rehabilitation as he builds momentum for a stronger comeback on the court.
“He is heading in the right direction,” said Vaughn. “To my knowledge, he won't need another MRI. He's building towards getting back on the floor.”
The return is nearing for Thomas
As Thomas was seen doing a shootaround after Tuesday's team practice, Vaughn also revealed that the high-scoring guard will be re-evaluated on Thursday about his healing status. The said scheduled day will mark the second week that Thomas has been in the team’s recovery chamber.
Head coach's updates about Thomas are promising and provide such optimism for the organization. Barring setbacks, it is truly safe to assume that the LSU product will be able to find himself back in time, well-equipped to play once again and resume making some noise around the league.
