Kevin Durant made headlines during the weekend when he replied to a user on X (formerly Twitter) about potentially getting a video tribute from the Nets. The video will likely air on January 31 when the Phoenix Suns visit the Barclays Center for the first time since the trade.

While Durant was more hostile with his dismissal of the idea, fans have said he deserves at least a video because of how well he played for the Nets. It appears his posts on X were more of a joke because KD has a more profound reason why he’s not a fan of the idea.

“Seriously, or is it because of my name? I’m just another player, man. I don’t deserve none of this extra attention, everybody looking at me when the game starts,” KD told reporters after the Suns’ loss to the Magic. “The game is about all the players on the court. It ain’t about me. I was there for three years, four years, and we didn’t accomplish anything worth being celebrated for. That’s just how I feel.”

Durant deserves the love from Nets fans

KD had a stellar stint with the Brooklyn-based team from 2019 to 2023. He set the standard for superstars for the Nets, as he was impressive night in and night out. Durant’s arrival also facilitated Kyrie Irving and James Harden joining the team.

While all these players flamed out with the Nets, KD reached the highest pinnacle for any Net during his time with the organization. The Nets’ run in the 2021 NBA Playoffs is the best example of KD’s excellence as he went toe-to-toe with the Milwaukee Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Unfortunately, Durant and the squad lost the series, but he made his case for being the best player in the league. Unfortunately for KD and the Nets, the team could not reach those great heights, but it’s undeniable that he brought hope to the Brooklyn fans.

Cam Thomas wants KD to get a tribute

As far as KD goes, he’s not a fan of the tribute. That is not the case for Cameron Thomas, KD’s former teammate in Brooklyn. Cam has supported the idea of the two-time Finals MVP getting a video.

“KD just be trolling. You know how he does. I’m sure they’ll give him one. He did a lot here… He just be trolling. Don’t listen to Kevin,” Cam said after the win against Utah.
