Kevin Ollie speaks about Cam Thomas' growth as a lead guard for Brooklyn

Cameron Thomas has continued to evolve into one of the most promising guards in the league. Initial perceptions showed he would continue to be a pure bucket-getter, but Cam has shown legitimate growth and has become one of the Nets’ top stars.

The 22-year-old has made strides in all facets of basketball, but the most significant step has been his playmaking because Cam has become a reliable lead guard. Coach Kevin Ollie has taken note of this improvement and is proud of his growth.

“He can score at all four levels, and what I mean is at the rim, mid-range, three-point range, and getting to the free-throw line… I’ve been impressed with his rebounding as a guard and getting down there and mucking it up a little bit,” Ollie said about Cam Thomas. 

“Just him being able to court-map. Understanding that there’s gonna be more double-teams thrown his way… He’s on the scouting report as one of the most prolific scorers in the league.”

Cam is becoming multi-dimensional with his offense

Thomas is growing into becoming the Nets’ cornerstone, as Mikal Bridges has become more suited to be the supportive piece. Cam is ready for the limelight, as he is already an elite scorer, but adding more dimensions to his offense makes him a significant threat to any defense.

Teams across the NBA have shown him the utmost respect by assigning the best defenders to him. Players like Herbert Jones and Alex Caruso are the matchups for Thomas, which shows that coaches are aware of Cam’s potential to bring his team to victory through his offensive contributions.

The Nets must build around Cam

With this constant improvement at only 22 years old, Thomas has shown he is ready for the spotlight. He’s not only growing as a scorer, but he is becoming an offensive hub that the Nets can build around.

Brooklyn general manager Sean Marks already has a budding star in his hands, and the best way to succeed in the long-term future is by building around Cam. The Nets already have complementary pieces like Day’Ron Sharpe, Jalen Wilson, and Mikal. It’ll be up to Marks and the rest of the front office to capitalize on Thomas’ potential as the centerpiece for everything.
