Nets PG Kyrie Irving elbowed in face during pick-up game; taken to doctor for evaluation
The Nets planned to use Tuesday's press conference to discuss the team's rebuilt roster, but GM Sean Marks revealed the point guard suffered an unfortunate injury during a pick-up game at the team facility.
"It literally happened 30 minutes ago, so I wouldn't want to speculate at all," noted Marks. "But I think this is just a case of doing our due diligence. Kyrie goes and gets checked out like we would with anybody else. We always send staff with him. This is a great opportunity for Kenny to be with him, too."
Kenny Atkinson accompanied Irving to see a doctor along with several members of the Nets medical staff. It didn't appear to be anything too serious, but the fact that the newly signed floor general needs medical attention before the seasons gets underway is a little unnerving for Nets fans.
Brooklyn is gearing up for its big media day on this Friday, so the hope is that an update on Irving will be made before the team meets with the local press in what many anticipate will be an exciting unveiling on the 2019-2020 team and the goals for the organization moving forward.
