Nets’ Dorian Finney-Smith gaining new interest from the Cavaliers
There is a new team that has emerged interested in Brooklyn Nets power forward Dorian Finney-Smith.
According to Chris Fedor of Cleveland.com, the Cavaliers are intrigued by Finney-Smith’s versatility in playing front-court spots and being able to drain three-point shots at a high rate.
“Dorian Finney-Smith is somebody that I do believe that the Cavs have interest in. He is somebody who can play the three and the four; he can shoot well enough from the outside spacing the floor.”
DFS: A strong Nets unit this 2023-24
Finney-Smith, 30, is currently averaging 9.6 points and 4.7 boards for 35 games of play (24 starts) this season for Brooklyn.
2023-24 continues to serve as his strongest shooting season from beyond the arc. His 40.9 percent three-point shooting across 5.5 attempts per game stands as a career-best throughout his undrafted career.
With his dynamics and flexibility to play multiple positions, DFS has been one of the key names emerging as hot targets throughout the league marketplace this season. As such, his ability to knock down shots from distance is also a sweet spot for multiple interested teams that are vying for 3-and-D caliber players.
Will the Nets truly entertain a trade amid warm interest around DFS?
DFS sits as one of the most important components of the Nets’ core and deep-wing slate. Amid the warm interest of plenty of teams in his service, the ball club hasn't shown any significant intent to move him even though the league's trade season is finally looming.
From what he's been performing and bringing to Brooklyn on a two-way basis this year, it makes his current contract a tremendous steal. Dorian is set to earn nearly $29M until the next 2024-25 seasons, in which he has a player option for 2025-26.
As the Nets continue to aim at being competitive, it remains yet to be seen if they'll consider a split-up with Doe-Doe. Unless an offer from the market is difficult to turn down, the franchise may rethink its commitment to the veteran forward.
