The Brooklyn Nets are inclined to retain and post Nic Claxton as a building block of their desired future.

Discussing league stuff that includes the Nets and Ben Simmons, ESPN Senior Writer Zach Lowe pointed out in his article that the ball club is interested in re-signing Claxton this summer.

“There is no long game here, though the Nets would like to re-sign Claxton -- an ace defender and dangerous rim-runner -- this offseason, per league sources.”

A puzzling trade saga for Nic this season

Holding an expiring $9.6M salary, Nic's impending free agent case drew league intrigue before this season's trade deadline when veteran league insider Marc Stein whispered that the big man “could be more available” in the marketplace.

But apparently, Nic remained on the roster beyond the trademark. As such, Ian Begley of SNY argued that the Nets truly desire to extend their ties with the center and plot an “aggressive re-signing” in free agency.

The Nets are convinced to retain Nic long-term

Clax remaining in Brooklyn this season despite his looming unrestricted free-agency status already demonstrates the strong confidence and planning that the Nets will present to hammer out a new contract with him later this year.

This shouldn't come as a surprise as Nic has blossomed from being a project player in 2019 into one of the most frightening interior anchors right now, who holds an average of 12.2 points, 2.3 blocks, and a career-high 10.2 boards.

Various league sources have produced plenty of projections around Clax’s next deal, but the most frequent ones land in the $20M to $25M range in terms of yearly salary. Nevertheless, every penny that he'll obtain will always be worth it as his defense, potential, and importance can have vital impacts on any team, especially for Brooklyn.
