NBA trade season is officially here, with multiple blockbuster moves being made over the last 24 hours. The first move to break headlines was the Dallas Mavericks trading Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers for a package including Anthony Davis, per Shams Charania of ESPN.

Following that deal, the San Antonio Spurs, Chicago Bulls, and Sacramento Kings have agreed on a trade, sending De'Aaron Fox to the Spurs and Zach LaVine to the Kings, per Charania. The next big storyline is Jimmy Butler's future with the Miami Heat, and whether or not they can get a deal done to send him elsewhere.

Much of the NBA world also turns its attention to the Brooklyn Nets, who have gone quiet recently when it comes to the trade market. The Nets were expected to ship off all of their veterans, and while Dennis Schroder and Dorian Finney-Smith have been moved, Cameron Johnson remains on the roster with no reports of further traction when it comes to talks.

Johnson was the most coveted veteran in Brooklyn to start the season, and he still is. The forward is averaging 19.4 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.9 assists on 49.1% shooting from the field and 41.9% from three. Many playoff and championship contenders remain interested in his services.

Despite his generated interest from around the NBA, the Nets are seemingly quiet on getting a deal done within the next few days. While Brooklyn could wait to make a move until the offseason, a trade now would maximize his value, as there is no guarantee Johnson would keep this production up through the rest of the season. Injury risk is also a factor.

The Nets are running out of time to trade Johnson and stack even more draft capital on its lucrative stash. They already have three first-round picks in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft and have 11 before 2030. Brooklyn is already looking to have one of the brightest futures in the league.

However, the Nets should prioritize a Johnson trade. If they can maximize his value and acquire promising talent and/or draft compensation, the team will be golden for the rebuild's future.
