Nets React To Trae Young's Game Winner
The Brooklyn Nets are now 1-4 since trading Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. The fourth loss was one that was hard to swallow for Brooklyn.
After crawling back from an 18-point deficit in the second half, the Nets hit the final minute of the contest trailing by only three points. Newly acquired wing Cameron Johnson came up big with a 23-foot corner triple to knot the game up at 127-127 with only 7.1 seconds left.
"Actually not [a set play]. Doe [Dorian Finney-Smith] got loose, got to the basket, and he found me in the corner," Johnson said on his game-tying three in the final seconds. "It was a great play on him to prove and make that extra play for the next guy. I missed one from that corner already and thought no way that was going to miss. No way I was going to miss that last one."
In those final seven seconds, the Hawks got to Trae Young and he delivered. The two-time NBA All-Star dribbled the ball down the court and after shaking off Mikal Bridges and Spencer Dinwiddie's contest from behind coming just a tad late, Young drilled a game-winning jumper at the nail to give the Atlanta Hawks the win.
"When he let it go, it looked good but good defense by Mikal, and Spence almost got a piece of it. It made him double-pump and on a shot like that, that's good defense but better offense. You got to give him credit," Johnson said on Young's game-winner. "Still, no excuse. Mikal was guarding all night moving his feet and he made a tough shot."
"We got some one-on-one coverage a little bit. We had some shell defense around him. You just give him credit for the shot he made," Jacque Vaughn said postgame. "What a contest from behind by Spencer. Good shot, give him credit."
