Approaching the 2023-24 season’s Feb. 8 trade deadline, the Brooklyn Nets are being pegged as desperate buyers.

From posting a strong 13-10 start towards their season, the Nets proceeded to stumble and endure a 4-17 stretch in their last 21 games. Now sitting at the shaky 11th spot of the East with a problematic 19-27 record, pressure time is truly in the air for the franchise.

Nets’ trade target: A Point Guard

With just a week to go before the league hits the trade deadline, Bleacher Report suggested that the Nets have to address their biggest need in terms of a point guard.

BR’s Andy Bailey argued that Spencer Dinwiddie has been underwhelming in his role as the floor general, while Ben Simmons hasn't played that much thus far this season. A great facilitator who can create opportunities and feed most of their gunners can create wonders for the Nets heading to the second-half portion of this season.

“The Nets' greater need is likely at the other end of the positional spectrum, where Ben Simmons is rarely available, and Spencer Dinwiddie is averaging more shot attempts than potential assists and working on a fifth straight season with a below-average true shooting percentage.

“For a team as loaded with catch-and-shoot threats as Brooklyn, which has Mikal Bridges, Cameron Johnson, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Royce O'Neale, someone who could reliably set them up would go a long way.”

The Nets have the assets to pull a trade

The Nets' probable desire to land a point man isn't entirely surprising. While Spencer did his best in fulfilling the starting role, his expiring contract and inconsistent play make him a likely trade piece before the trade deadline. Meanwhile, Ben is yet to gain momentum as he finally made his return after nearly three months of inactivity due to back issues.

Thankfully enough, Brooklyn holds a strong draft chest and considerable pieces that could be utilized in dropping a needed trade and perhaps landing a point man who can guide them as they get deeper this season.
