Struggling Dennis Schroder plants patience as meshing with Nets continues: "One day at a time"
After a dazzling showmanship to mark his Brooklyn Nets debut, Dennis Schroder is now enduring a rough individual stretch.
Fresh off his trade deadline landing from the Toronto Raptors, Schroder instantly flirted with a strong first impression for the Nets against the San Antonio Spurs by dropping 15 points and 12 assists to lead their 123-103 win.
But since this solid outing against the Spurs, Schroder has dipped offensively. In this four-game stretch, which all resulted in losses, he underperformed with an awful 6.5 points. His efficiency has been alarming as well, with 24.4 percent, which corresponds to a horrible 10-of-39 field goal attempted.
Trust the process
As their main trade deadline acquisition and new point guard help in the wake of Spencer Dinwiddie's departure, Brooklyn is keeping a promising regard toward Dennis. And amid the ongoing, frustrating struggles, the veteran can only take his time to adjust to the roller coaster experience he saw spanning over two weeks as a Net.
From playing briefly under Jacque Vaughn to now building momentum with Kevin Ollie, Schroder is clinging to patience despite the pressure that continues to boil individually and around the team.
“I mean, being a professional, you know? One day at a time. We’ve got some change here, but we want to have different results as well in the second half of the season,” said Schroder. “So everybody’s ready to step up, to give a little bit more, and to make it a winning season. So I think everybody’s ready for the challenge.”
Hoping for better days to come
Losing four straight games and eight of the last seven screams such urgency for the Nets, considering their shaky contention position and with just 26 games left on the table.
As they are currently out of the Play-In picture, Schroder is certainly hoping for the better on what lies ahead despite how situations have turned upside down for him and the franchise this entire season.
