The Brooklyn Nets get a big 116-12 win over the Phoenix Suns
In a highly anticipated matchup marking the Phoenix Suns' big three debut, the Brooklyn Nets emerged triumphant, turning the tide after a disappointing loss to the Sacramento Kings earlier in the week.
This win had a well-rounded performance from the Nets as five players scored double-digit points. Cameron Thomas led the team with 24 points, but Spencer Dinwiddie came up clutch with some timely buckets and a solid stat line of 16 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists.
“Just execution, get stops. Spencer made some big plays, Cam Thomas, just guys stepping up for each other, offensively and defensively,” Mikal Bridges said in his post-game interview.
A team effort led to the win
There was no clear-cut star for the Nets in this game which was perfect for playing against a top-heavy team like the Suns. Devin Booker and Kevin Durant had phenomenal performances with 34 and 27 points respectively. However, Bradley Beal who played his first game for the Suns was tentative, scoring only 14 points.
For the Nets, every player who came into the game scored at least three points or more. It was a strong performance that proved the Nets are deep, considering they still have three vital players sidelined.
This is what coach Jacque Vaughn wanted to see from his team because they were relying too much on Mikal Bridges in the past few games. Now, there is more of a team effort and it looks sustainable moving forward.
A good homecoming for Bridges and Johnson
This was an emotional game for Mikal Bridges and Cameron Johnson as they were integral players to the Suns for the past few years. Now that they’re playing for the Nets after the Durant trade, they had chips on their shoulders ahead of this game.
Bridges had an impressive game, putting up 21 points, while Johnson made a solid contribution with 15 points. Their standout performance was even more gratifying with the win, affirming their capability to guide the team to success against their former organization.
Rest is not for the weary for the Nets as they play again on a back-to-back, this time against the defending champion, Denver Nuggets at Ball Arena.
