Ben Simmons has dealt with back issues over the past few seasons, severely hampering his effectiveness as a Brooklyn Net. The Aussie guard had back surgery before, but this time, it was a nerve impingement that took him out.

It is a massive step for Ben, as his agent, Bernard Lee, looked for non-surgery options earlier in the 2023/24 season. Thankfully, they opted for a long-term solution through surgery, which will lead to a better recovery.

Brooklyn Nets guard/forward Ben Simmons underwent a successful microscopic partial discectomy earlier today to alleviate the nerve impingement in his lower back,” The Nets wrote in an official statement.

“The procedure was performed by Dr. Timur Urakov, in consultation with Dr. Barth Green, at UHealth Jackson Memorial Medical Center. Simmons is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp next season.”

Ben can be vital to the team next season

With Ben set to return by the start of the 2024/25 season, the Nets will look forward to having him in an optimal role. There is no way of knowing how effective Ben will be for the Nets when he returns, but he will do his best to contribute. His playmaking and defense can be a massive asset for the team.

Simmons is already entering the final year of his contract with Brooklyn, so he will be looking to play better to convince the Nets or other teams to sign him in the 2025 offseason. The fans hope Ben will return to his best and boost the team’s chances of making it into the Playoffs.

Long-term recovery is better for Simmons

For such a significant injury as nerve impingement in the lower back, Ben had a big problem. It could’ve been much worse, considering a long-term back injury could have repercussions that could affect him after his playing career.

Thankfully, Simmons, Lee, and the rest of his close team decided to make the best long-term decision. The decision could maximize Ben’s playing career and improve his life after his playing career.

With the expectation for Simmons to recover, the Nets can become a contender for the Playoffs. It will be a good time for Ben and Brooklyn, as he has experienced a nightmarish time with the organization.
