Three Key Takeaways from the Nets' Impressive Win Over the Bulls
During the second night of a back-to-back, the Brooklyn Nets initially faced challenges, finding themselves trailing the Chicago Bulls 30-9 in the first quarter. Nevertheless, the Nets rebounded strongly, seizing control of the game in the following three quarters.
It was an impressive win which has led to some good takeaways for the Nets moving forward.
Royce O’Neale is a valuable piece to this team
In the second quarter, the Nets outscored the Bulls 41-19, a massive difference from the first one. A significant contributor to their surge was Royce O’Neale, who delivered an impressive performance during his second appearance on the court. He showcased excellence in rebounding, facilitating the pace, and displaying effective scoring.
Aside from that, he also had a good statistical game, finishing with 20 points and nine rebounds while hitting six out of his 10 three-pointers. It was a game-changing performance from the combo forward to lead the Nets back to .500 with an 8-8 record.
Spencer Dinwiddie keeps impressing as the lead guard
The only player to exceed O’Neale’s point total was Spencer Dinwiddie who scored 24 points to lead the Nets. His performance was remarkable as he not only demonstrated scoring prowess but also showcased playmaking skills, contributing seven assists once again.
While he didn't achieve the same double-double feats in his last two games, Dinwiddie persistently demonstrated that he remains one of the most dependable players on the Nets roster. He continues to step up in Ben Simmons’ absence as the starting point guard who could lead the offense.
Trendon Watford deserves more minutes
Coming off the bench, Trendon Watford emerged as a standout, concluding with 11 points in a mere 17 minutes. It was a fantastic cameo off the pine as he was not only playing as a backup big man but he was also a point guard out there.
He has already drawn praise from coach Jacque Vaughn with his ability to dribble the ball but this game was proof that he could do it consistently. After the game, Trendon himself had a post-game presser and he addressed his role on the team.
“As far as the ball-handling, it’s different. I wasn’t playing the point much in Portland, but ball-handling and playmaking has always been my thing, so I’m comfortable doing it,” Watford said.
Moving forward, the Nets have good momentum again as they look to get past the .500 mark. They will face the Toronto Raptors next on Tuesday, November 28 at Barclays Center.
