Victory against reeling Pistons a “huge statement” for Nets coach Jacque Vaughn

The Brooklyn Nets entered Tuesday's game with such pressuring aura.

Facing the inferior Detroit Pistons squad for the second-straight game, the Nets understand the overwhelming implication once they crumble. The opposing team was looking to snap its 26-game losing skid and evade a blunderous feat of setting the NBA's worst streak in history.

But in the end, Brooklyn mustered all the courage and confidence they needed to pull it off against Detroit. As painful as it is to hand the lowly squad the record-breaking mark, they'd prefer to do it rather than fall as the league's laughingstock.

A huge statement win

The one who absorbed the rumblings and took the utmost responsibility for leading the Nets against the Pistons was Jacque Vaughn.

As such, the victory they grabbed in front of the devastated Detroit crown is not just a slapping response to those who tried to pit them from humiliation but also a constructive one for his group from a collective standpoint.

"Yeah, it's a huge statement, I think, because there's obviously there is outside noise and with guys with social media and being on their phones, they hear it [and] see it. I did, in all honesty," he said.

"But I think going into this game, we were really concerned about us getting better. And we've tried to keep it that simple. I think tonight we got better as a basketball team. Making plays together. Guys stepping up. Figuring things out together. So at the end of the day for us, if we keep it that simple, we'll get rewarded for it."

Keep the composure rolling

By grabbing the needed win against the Pistons, the Nets moved back to the .500 mark upon previous games of struggles.

The work continues for them to extend their streak once again as they go home and face the Milwaukee Bucks up next.

"[Detroit] gonna win one game, so, you know, but yeah, it wasn't us," Dorian Finney-Smith said. "They're gonna win one soon, but we're just trying to get back streaking too, you know, we win this one (Wednesday vs. Milwaukee), it's a good game for us."
