Mikal Bridges will always be in some way tied to Kevin Durant. The core piece sent back to Brooklyn in the blockbuster trade that sent Durant to Phoenix, Bridges will regularly have his name brought up alongside Durant for a long time.

When asked recently who his favorite player growing up was, Bridges smiled and paused for a second before laughing and saying, "Kevin Durant."

Bridges clearly understood the coincidental nature of his answer, which is why he could not hold in his laugh. Having been traded to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for Durant, it had to be a surreal feeling for Bridges who grew up a fan of the superstar forward.

While being traded certainly must be a weird feeling for Bridges, it also has to be somewhat of an honor as well. The Nets clearly valued him in a major way, which has been corroborated by several reports that indicate Brooklyn was first targeting him in the summer when Durant's name was in trade discussions.

The Nets are very happy with their new core, and while it may not have the ceiling that Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving had, there is real reason for optimism in Brooklyn. With Bridges having already turned in a Durant-like performance in his first few games with the Nets, there is reason to believe he can begin thriving with the added responsibility he will have in Brooklyn.
