Austin Reaves Reveals Why Lakers Were Swept by Nuggets
After an improbable run to the Western Conference Finals, the Los Angeles Lakers were swept by the Denver Nuggets. While the Lakers hung around in all of those games, they were ultimately unable to overcome a dominant Nuggets team that went on to win the NBA championship.
Appearing on the Full Send Podcast, Lakers guard Austin Reaves was asked about that series, and revealed why the Lakers were swept by the Nuggets.
"Obviously we got swept and it sounds bad, but if you go back and look, every game honestly - Game 1... we made a run late and actually had an opportunity to win that game. Then [Games] 2, 3, and 4 were tossups. If one thing goes your way, we might be sitting in the NBA Finals playing against Miami. They got two guys over there that are really good, and then their core around that played really good against us. They didn't miss shots."
When asked if there were any adjustments the Lakers could have made, Reaves was honest, and revealed the ultimate reason they lost was because Nikola Jokic was simply unstoppable.
"I think we tried everything," Reaves said. "I think Jokic was honestly on a different level. I think they made probably six or seven just ridiculous [shots] - like [Jokic] made like two or three ridiculous one-foot step backs at the end of the shot clock... But I think we basically threw the whole kitchen sink at them, they just played really well."
The Lakers did all they could, but Jokic and the Nuggets were too much to handle.
