BREAKING: Bruce Brown Makes Free Agency Decision
It was announced by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski that highly coveted free agent Bruce Brown has decided to leave the Denver Nuggets for the Indiana Pacers. In his Tweet on Friday evening, Wojnarowski wrote, "ESPN reporting with @malikaandrews: Free agent Bruce Brown has agreed on a two-year, $45M deal with the Indiana Pacers, his agents Ty Sullivan and Steven Heumann of @CAASports tell ESPN. Denver — limited in what it could pay — loses a key piece to its repeat hopes."
This is a major loss for the Nuggets, but one they saw coming. Limited in what they could offer Brown, Denver understood the likelihood that he would end up elsewhere. While this hurts for Denver, Brown will always be a member of that Nuggets championship roster, and will be remembered fondly by the fanbase.
For Brown, this is his first big NBA contract, and one that was well-earned. It certainly will not be his last either, as he has proven the ability to be a key piece on a championship team. Indiana will be getting a versatile player who now has championship experience, as they look to become more competitive in the Eastern Conference.
There were not many teams around the league with cap space to pay Brown a deal like this, which is why many expected him to sign a contract for the mid-level exception somewhere. Clearly valued above that number, Brown secured a two-year, $45M deal with the Pacers.
