Carmelo Anthony Reacts to Backlash Over Controversial Nikola Jokic Comments
NBA legend Carmelo Anthony recently had some controversial comments on the Denver Nuggets giving Nikola Jokic his number. Addressing these comments on the latest episode of his 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Anthony reacted to the backlash he has received, and clarified what he meant.
"Everybody has something to say about me for 20 years and I’ve never spoken on anything," Anthony said. "No situations I’ve ever been in, no feelings, no nothing… I’m speaking as an experience at a point in time in my career… I’m speaking on the way organizations treat players when they leave despite what they ever did for that organization… So my sh-t wasn’t against Jokic… It had nothing to do with Jokic. That was 4-5 years later. I was making the point that [the Nuggets] organization didn’t handle it well when it came to the number, and I'm standing on that. Because If you handle it well, Anthony Randolph don’t get the 15. If you [are] handling the situation well. It’s like alright he wanted to get out of here, f--k him…. It was a lockout [season] so I don’t know what was happening in Denver... So next time I see [the number], mind you I’m on 7 now, so I’m not really thinking about what’s happening in Denver, I’m moving on. Because of that, I see it [playing] against Anthony Randolph and I’m like, 'Oh wow.''
Making sure to clarify what he meant, Anthony said his comments were not about Jokic, but rather the Nuggets organization. This seemed clear already, but some misunderstood what Anthony was trying to say.
