Dallas Mavericks Targeting Key Denver Nuggets Player
As the Dallas Mavericks continue to build around Luka Doncic, each offseason becomes increasingly important. Somewhat limited financially due to their cap situation, Dallas has done well to clear up some space this summer to pursue a key contributor. According to NBA insider Marc Stein, Denver Nuggets guard Bruce Brown as at the top of that list.
"Dallas instead used Bertans' contract to move down two spots in the draft to select Duke center Dereck Lively II at No. 12 and likewise move far enough away from luxury-tax territory to gain use of the full non-taxpayers’ $12.4 midlevel exception in free agency to pursue top wings in free agency (starting with Denver’s Bruce Brown)," Stein reported.
Brown is expected to be heavily pursued around the NBA after emerging as a key piece to Denver's title run. While the Nuggets would love to retain him, Brown likely has an opportunity to get a bigger contract elsewhere. As Stein reported, the Mavericks could be in play.
This is now consecutive postseasons where Brown has shown his worth on the biggest stage. Doing so for the Brooklyn Nets, even in their sweep to the Boston Celtics, Brown proved with Denver that his play in that series was no fluke. An elite role player, Brown could help a lot of different contenders next season, and will likely receive a nice pay day.
