Denver Nuggets Sign Former Lakers Player
It was reported by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Sunday that the Denver Nuggets have signed center Jay Huff to a two-way contract. Huff had been playing for the Houston Rockets in Summer League, but now lands an opportunity with the defending champions.
Huff has limited NBA experience, playing four games for the Los Angeles Lakers in the 2021-22 season, and seven games for the Washington Wizards last season. With this being a two-way contract, Huff will likely spend the majority of his time in the G-League, but will be an organizational depth piece at the center position.
As Huff showed, Summer League is often an opportunity for players to showcase their abilities for teams around the league. Landing a two-way deal with the Nuggets after being with the Rockets in Summer League, Huff showed why this opportunity is so important for players looking to secure NBA deals.
The Nuggets may not be done making moves this summer, because while Huff is a solid two-way option, Denver could still use another rotation piece after losing Bruce Brown and Jeff Green. The defending champions re-signed Reggie Jackson to presumably move up in the rotation, but they could use another reliable piece if that plan does not work out.
For now, the Nuggets are making a move on the margins with the addition of Huff.
