Former NBA All-Star Reportedly Joins New Team
It was reported on Tuesday afternoon by Shams Charania of The Athletic that former NBA star Isaiah Thomas has agreed to join the Utah Jazz's G-League team, the Salt Lake City Stars, in an attempt to make a comeback to the league.
Last playing in the NBA for the Charlotte Hornets in the 2021-22 season, Thomas has been out of the NBA since, but has remained in pursuit of another opportunity. Having bounced around quite a bit since his days as an All-Star with the Boston Celtics, Thomas has played for the Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, Washington Wizards, Los Angeles Lakers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Denver Nuggets, New Orleans Pelicans, Dallas Mavericks, and most recently the Charlotte Hornets.
Thomas has been open about his desire to continue playing at the NBA level, but a pathway hadn't presented itself until now. While the path from this G-League opportunity to NBA minutes is a difficult one, perhaps Thomas can find his way back onto an NBA court before this season ends.
If nothing else, Thomas will serve as organizational depth and a solid veteran voice within Utah's organization, which always has value. Outside of that, Thomas's play will determine how extensive this opportunity is, and whether or not he gets a shot at the NBA level.
For now, Thomas is back playing basketball as part of Utah's G-League affiliate.
