Former NBA Superstar Joins New Team
It was announced by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski that former NBA superstar Demarcus Cousins has joined the Taiwan Beer Leopards of Taiwan’s T1 League.
Cousins last played in the NBA for the Denver Nuggets in the 2021-22 season, and while he did sign a contract with the Los Angeles Lakers after that, he never appeared in a game for them. The end of Cousins' career was spent bouncing around teams trying to carve out a role off the bench, but the peak of his career was arguably the best center in basketball.
A superstar in his prime, Cousins made four-straight All-Star teams from 2015-2018. An ACL injury sidelined Cousins for the entire 2019-20 season, and he never averaged double digits in scoring again after that. Injuries not only cut Cousins' prime short, but they also ruined his best chance at a championship which was with the Golden State Warriors in 2019.
Injuring himself during that run, Cousins was limited to just seven games that postseason, and injuries to his star teammates Kevin Durant and Klay Thompson were of course even more significant blows to Golden State's three-peat effort.
All of that being said, Cousins still had a very good NBA career. His peak was about as good as it gets when it comes to scoring talent from the center position, as Cousins was a problem for opposing defenses from anywhere on the court. Cousins is now taking his talents to the Taiwan Beer Leopards of Taiwan’s T1 League.
