Former Nuggets Player Makes Controversial LeBron James Statement
It feels like everyone wants to see LeBron James play on the same basketball team with his son Bronny. However, Austin Rivers believes the idea might not be so great.
While speaking on ESPN, Rivers explained why he believes it would be best for Bronny to not play on the same team as his father LeBron James. If there's one person who has dealt with a similar situation, it's Austin Rivers when he played for his father Doc on the Clippers.
“I hope it doesn’t happen,” Rivers said. “I don't want to see Bronny play with his dad, I really don’t. I went through something similar…What happens is a lot of people start to discredit everything you’ve done.”
There wasn't a more scrutinized player in the NBA when Austin Rivers played on the Clippers for his father. He wasn't just scrutinized by the media, but even by other players and sometimes his own teammates. It's a very unenviable position, and a very interesting perspective to think about.
"Him going and playing with his dad—at this point in his career, just because Bronny's success is not at a top-tier level—him getting drafted and playing with his dad, I don't want that negativity to come his way. Because he doesn't deserve it," Rivers said. "I hope that he’s able to play somewhere where he can niche out his own identity.”
While it would be a very feel-good story for LeBron James to play with his son Bronny on the same team, the stance that Austin Rivers has is actually a very important one to consider. It may not be all sunshine and rainbows for Bronny James.
