It was announced by Sports Media Watch that former NBA players Austin Rivers and Andre Iguodala will have television roles with ESPN this season. According to the report, Rivers will call at least one game with his father Doc Rivers, but Iguodala's role was not detailed.

Both players spent time with the Denver Nuggets in their NBA careers, and will be working with ESPN after each being on NBA rosters last season. For Iguodala, he recently announced his retirement after winning four championships and a Finals MVP award with the Golden State Warriors. Also a one-time All-Star, Iguodala had an incredible playing career.

A lottery pick in 2012, Rivers never became the star player he was touted as in the draft, but he carved out a very nice career. Playing 11 years in the NBA, Rivers was a high-level role player for several different teams, despite constantly fighting the narrative that he was only in the league because of his father.

ESPN has been picking up a lot of new talent for this upcoming NBA season, and should have a fun lineup for broadcasts and studio coverage. With former players fresh out of their playing days, ESPN should be able to provide a unique perspective from these former players in addition to their other analysts who did not play at the NBA level.
