Hall-of-Fame NBA Coach Defends Deion Sanders From Oregon Coach
Oregon Ducks football coach Dan Lanning went viral on Saturday for his pregame speech before facing Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes. Saying Colorado was playing for clicks rather than wins, Lanning sparked controversy with a statement that ironically generated a lot of clicks.
One of the many people to call out Lanning was Hall-of-Fame NBA coach George Karl. The former Denver Nuggets coach first called out Lanning's comments since the Oregon coach knew he was being filmed, and then followed that Tweet with another that defended Deion Sanders:
Using Lanning's words against him, Karl said maybe the Oregon coach needs more clicks himself. This has been one of the most prevalent arguments against the Oregon coach, since many felt he himself was going for "clicks" with his statement. While this was a tough loss for Colorado, Karl and millions of others will again be tuned in for their game next weekend.
For Oregon, they made a statement with this win, but perhaps not the one they were focused on making. While the Ducks proved they're a better team than Colorado, this was not because of their additional focus on winning, but rather their superior talent. That's part of football, but acting as if the Buffaloes are only focused on media attention is where so many people have taken issue with Lanning's pregame comments.
