Sometimes when NBA teams win a championship, it can be hard for them to find the motivation to compete the following year. The players don't look quite as sharp, the team isn't quite as good on defense, and they just look a step slower.

After winning the NBA Championship last season, Jamal Murray believes the Denver Nuggets may fall into some of those troubles.

In an interview with Harrison Wind DNVR Sports, Murray was incredibly candid about his expectations for the Nuggets this upcoming season.

“I think it’s going to be a different year,” said Murray. “We’re going to mess up a lot. We’re going to look lazy a lot just from what I’m seeing, from what I know that we can do.”

Murray then later clarified that lazy wasn't the proper term for him to use about the Nuggets. The more accurate words he wanted to use was "not as sharp", which is a very accurate statement to see about a defending champion.

“Not lazy. A little sloppy with the turnovers,” Murray said. “Not as sharp. I wouldn’t say lazy. Not as sharp as we’re used to being or the consistency that we’re used to. Just trying to get back to that. Just trying to be honest with how we can improve.”

It takes a certain type of mindset for a team to have back-to-back championships. It's not a coincidence that some of the only teams to have three-peats included the insanely competitive personalities of Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan.
