The Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks are set to face off in a Western Conference showdown on Monday night, but star point guard Kyrie Irving will not be available to play. The Mavericks have released their injury report for this game, and Irving has been ruled out with a right heel contusion.

Irving and the Mavericks have gotten off to a solid start to the season, looking much improved from a year ago. While this injury to Irving has made things tough on Dallas, they feel fortunate it was not worse, as the star point guard was landed on by his teammate Dwight Powell who took a hard fall onto Irving's foot.

This game agianst the Nuggets will be a tough one for Dallas, but also a really good test. Recognizing Denver is one of the teams they will likely have to get through if they want to make a deep playoff run, the Mavericks have an opportunity to see how they line up with the defending champions - albeit without their second best player, which certainly removes some of the intrigue.

While Dallas awaits the return of Irving, they will continue to lean heavily on superstar guard Luka Doncic. Always in the mix for league MVP, Doncic is again in that conversation to start this season, and will see another MVP candidate in Nikola Jokic on Monday.
