Lakers Considering Trade to Increase Playoff Chances
The Lakers haven't been the team that everyone expected them to be this season. Many touted them as the kings of the off-season with the moves they've made, yet they've struggled to be a winning team all season.
According to one insider, a move may be made soon to compete with the championship-contending teams like the Denver Nuggets.
Dave McMenamin from ESPN reported that the Lakers may make a move for Andre Drummond in case they have a playoff rematch against the Denver Nuggets. The exact excerpt from his article reads as follows:
"The Lakers have also considered dealing for players who could address specific needs in a potential playoff matchup, such as Andre Drummond of the Bulls, in anticipation of a postseason rematch with the Denver Nuggets and their big front line of Nikola Jokic and Aaron Gordon, sources said. Dorian Finney-Smith of the Brooklyn Nets is a big wing L.A. could target for a playoff series with the Clippers to try to neutralize Kawhi Leonard and Paul George."
While it's a good idea for the Lakers to be ready for major playoff matchups, to say Andre Drummond could handle Nikola Jokic or Dorian Finney-Smith could neutralize Kawhi Leonard is a massive stretch. Neither of those players has had success defensively against the superstars they've been tasked with guarding in the past, and it won't suddenly start happening after a mid-season trade.
One thing is for sure though, regardless of record, the Lakers aren't a team to be slept on in the NBA Playoffs.
