NBA Breaks Silence on Controversial Call in Nuggets vs. Celtics
The Denver Nuggets and Boston Celtics played a thriller on Friday night. This game came down to the wire, as Denver defeated Boston 102-100, handing the Celtics their first home loss of the season. There were two controversial calls down the stretch of this game, and the NBA has explained both of them in their Last Two Minute Report.
The first controversial call down the stretch of this game came with 56.7 seconds remaining when Kristaps Porzingis was whistled for a loose ball foul on Nikola Jokic. Some felt Porzingis should not have been called for the foul, but the NBA explained the ruling in their Last Two Minute Report, stating, "Porzingis (BOS) jumps into Jokic's (DEN) body and dislodges him from his position in order to get to the ball."
The second controversial call came after a double lane violation, which resulted in a jump ball. Initially, it looked as if the Celtics were the only team in violation on the play, but replay shows that Nikola Jokic also stepped into the lane, which the NBA explained. On that play, the league wrote, "Porzingis (BOS), Jokic (DEN), and Brown (BOS) all step into the lane before the release of the free throw."
There were no incorrect calls or non-calls on the Last Two Minute Report, as the NBA deemed every call in the last two minutes of this game to be the correct ruling.
