NBA Champion Shares Bold Nikola Jokic Prediction
With Joel Embiid winning the 2023 NBA MVP award, many felt as if voter fatigue negatively impacted Nikola Jokic's chances at winning the award for a third-straight season. While Embiid was deserving, Jokic also had a strong case. During the latest episode of their "Road Trippin" podcast, NBA champions Channing Frye and Richard Jefferson agreed that Jokic could win the next three MVP awards after solidifying himself as the best player in the world.
"Jokic dominates in the playoffs and shows that his skills and his game can have levels, everyone is going to say Jokic is the best player in basketball until someone dethrones him. So Jokic might win for the next three years," Frye said.
Jefferson added, "Especially now, I can see him winning - like LeBron, three in four years. I can see it because I think his numbers will be off the charts, there won't be any questions about postseason performance. He's coming off a Finals MVP. If Denver is a top two [seed] and he's putting up good to great numbers and he's consistent and healthy, he could do it again."
Frye added that voter fatigue will be gone for Jokic, which will also help his chances. It seemed the two former players were suggesting that voters may have let other factors impact their decision to not give Jokic the MVP award last season, but will now be able to evaluate the Denver Nuggets star more fairly.
