NBA Disciplines Anthony Edwards for Actions Following Nuggets Series
Following Game 5 of the opening round vs. the Denver Nuggets, Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards swung a chair that struck two bystanders. After completing an investigation, the NBA released the following statement on the incident:
"NBA Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations Joe Dumars announced today that Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has been fined $50,000 for recklessly swinging a chair in frustration that struck two bystanders as he exited the court at the conclusion of the Timberwolves' playoff game against the Denver Nuggets on April 25 at Ball Arena. In accordance with the collective bargaining agreement, the league's review of this matter was deferred until after the criminal investigation into the player's conduct concluded with charges dismissed last month."
As the NBA announced, Edwards was fined $50,000 for his actions following that series. It was a moment of frustration for the Timberwolves star that resulted in two bystanders being struck by a chair. This is obviously something nobody wants to see happen, and the NBA responded with a fine for Edwards.
There was a criminal investigation done as well, which resulted in charges being dismissed. As the NBA mentioned in their statement, their review of the incident was deterred until the criminal investigation was completed. The end result of both investigations is a $50,000 fine for Edwards, and no additional legal punishment.
