NBA Legend Reacts to Serbia Defeating Canada Without Nikola Jokic
When Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic decided against playing in this summer's FIBA World Cup, many believed Serbia would have a tough time competing for a medal. While this was undoubtedly a big blow for the Serbian national team, their roster has shown a lot of fight throughout the entire tournament, and recently knocked off Team Canada to advance to the FIBA World Cup Finals.
The basketball world has been sharing their reactions to Serbia defeating Canada without Jokic, including NBA legend Manu Ginobli, who sent out this Tweet following the game:
An international superstar himself, Ginobli led Argentina to a gold medal in the 2004 Olympics. One of the greatest sixth men in NBA history, Ginobli was also an integral piece to the San Antonio Spurs, who he won four NBA championships with.
Receiving high praise from a player like Ginobli has to mean a lot for the Serbian national team, especially after so many others wrote them off prior to this tournament beginning. A talented group even without Jokic, Serbia proved that they're a force in this tournament, and now have an opportunity to compete for a gold medal in the FIBA World Cup Finals.
Jokic was torn on his decision not to compete this summer, but ultimately opted against playing after a long playoff run. His Serbian teammates were able to pick him up, and now sit one win away from a gold medal.
