Even though Carmelo Anthony is one of the greatest Denver Nuggets players ever, his time there was volatile from very early on. Much of that volatility came from his relationship with Hall of Fame coach George Karl.

On the newest episode of the 7PM in Brooklyn podcast, Carmelo Anthony revealed a very shocking conversation he had with Karl during their very first moments together on the Nuggets. The coach actually called Melo overrated during his first week on the job.

"The minute that I knew we wasn’t going to work out. Or we was going to have issues. The first day he got the job," Melo said. "He got the job a couple days before we played [the] Milwaukee Bucks so the whole thing was I’m not coaching no game. My first game I want to be against the Milwaukee Bucks…I really don’t know the game when he came to the team. I’m 21 now. All I know is I got a big name coach coming. George Karl, coached Miluakee, coached Seattle…you know all of that. We get to Miluakee after shoot around [he] called me to his room and he tell me, hey man I think you [are] overrated. Like you have a lot of work–”

Some players have very tumultuous relationships with their coaches, but Melo's story is one that's very rare to hear. It's not often a Hall of Fame coach interacts with a Hall of Fame talent and immediately clashes over a brazen comment. With moments like this, it makes sense that Carmelo Anthony didn't work out in Denver.
