The NBA announced on Thursday morning that the Philadelphia 76ers have been fined $75,000 for failing to add Joel Embiid to the injury report for their game against the Denver Nuggets. The league’s official statement read the following:

"The 76ers have been fined $75,000 for failing to include Joel Embiid on the team's injury report in an accurate and timely manner for the team's game on Saturday, Jan. 27 against the Denver Nuggets. The fine takes into account Philadelphia's prior history of fines for violating injury reporting rules. The league review concluded that there was no violation of the Player Participation Policy because Embiid's absence was due to a confirmed injury."

As seen at the end of this statement, the NBA deemed there to be no Player Participation Policy violation on Embiid’s part, which makes sense considering he was forced to miss time after that game with the same injury. This announcement had two components, one focused on the 76ers’ error of not adding Embiid to the injury report, and the other determining Embiid did not violate the league’s new Player Participation Policy.

While Embiid took a lot of criticism for not playing against the Nuggets, that outrage should have always been directed at the 76ers organization. Clearly injured, Embiid should have been placed on the injury report by Philadelphia, which would not have made it such a shock when he was eventually ruled out. This is why the 76ers were fined $75,000.
