Nikola Jokic Nominated For Two Major Awards
Nikola Jokic had a historic season this year with the Denver Nuggets. As such, he's being rightfully rewarded with post-season awards, both from the NBA and even from ESPN.
Jokic has been officially nominated for Best Athlete in Men's Sports and Best Championship Performance by the ESPYS.
The following athletes are listed in the category of Best Athlete in Men's Sports: Nikola Jokic, Aaron Judge, Patrick Mahomes, and Lionel Messi. It would be great to see Jokic win the award, but it's very hard to compete against the championship years of Patrick Mahomes, and especially, Lionel Messi.
Leon Edwards, Nikola Jokic, Lionel Messi, and Rose Zhang were all nominated for the category of Best Championship Performance. Edwards defeated Kumaru Usman by 5th-round KO to win the UFC welterweight title, Messi scored two goals in the World Cup Final and won the Golden Ball, and Rose Zhang defeated Jennifer Kupcho in a two-hole sudden death playoff. In all honesty, it'll be very hard to defeat Messi in this category after years of waiting to see him win the World Cup Final.
The ESPYS are taking place live on Wednesday, July 12 at 8 pm ET. While Nikola Jokic may not be the favorite in his awards category, it's still fantastic to see a member of the Denver Nuggets actually receive national recognition like this.
