Nikola Jokic Reacts to Spoiling LeBron James' Historic Night
Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made history on Saturday night, becoming the first player in NBA history to reach 40,000 career points. Nikola Jokic and the Denver Nuggets were able to spoil James' big night, defeating the Lakers in similar fashion to how their last several games against Los Angeles have gone.
While the Lakers usually hang tough against Denver, the Nuggets have another gear they can reach down the stretch of games that the Lakers have proven an inability to match. Following that same script in this game, the Nuggets turned up the intensity down the stretch, and buried the Lakers.
Speaking on the ESPN broadcast after the game, Jokic was asked about spoiling James' big night, and said, "They had control the first half, they had really good energy. We didn't play really good the first half, they were getting to the paint, they were having open looks... We were better in the second half, we scored 124 points, which is a lot. I'm just glad that we won the game."
The Nuggets have dominated the Lakers the last two seasons, most notably in the Western Conference Finals when Denver swept LA. As previously mentioned, those four games all played out very similarly to how this latest matchup went, with Denver putting the Lakers away with better execution down the stretch.
