The Denver Nuggets announced on Wednesday that star forward Aaron Gordon suffered a dog bite on Christmas that will sideline him while he recovers. In their statement, the team wrote the following:

"Aaron Gordon suffered lacerations to his face and hand resulting from a dog bite on December 25th. Aaron is in good condition and will remain away from the team while he recovers."

Additional information was provided by Shams Charania of The Athletic, who stated via sources, “Aaron Gordon suffered serious dog bites to his face and shooting right hand on Monday -- requiring 21 stitches, sources say. It will take some time to heal, with no timetable yet.”

This is certainly an unexpected injury, but it fortunately sounds as if Gordon avoided any worse case scenario injuries from the dog bite, with the team announcing he is in good condition. A massive piece to what Denver does on both ends, Gordon will certainly be missed while he recovers.

The Nuggets are on a roll right now, having won five straight games, but they will have to adjust now with their starting power forward sidelined. It’s unclear how much time Gordon will miss, but it does seem that he will miss some games with this injury.

Denver has a next man up mentality, which they will have to tap into while Gordon is out.
