Nuggets Coach Reveals Untold Championship Moment
When the 2022-23 NBA season started, no one expected the Denver Nuggets to finish the season as champions. No one, except the Denver Nuggets and their ownership team. It was a year of special moments, but there was one moment in particular that Nuggets head coach Michael Malone really valued.
Michael Malone was a guest on The Lowe Post with Zach Lowe where he discussed his favorite championship memory. Malone revealed that it was before Game 1 of the NBA Finals, when Nuggets' owners Stan and Josh Kroenke visited the team.
“The Kroenke family, you know, their teams win championships,” Malone said. “The Rams had just won a championship. The Avalanche have won championships, and it was finally our turn to try and win one. And they’re huge basketball fans. When I saw how emotional and how much it meant to Stan Kroenke — in a good way, he loves all his teams — but that was something that I felt so grateful to be working for and with a tremendous ownership group that had the wisdom to come down and just wish me good luck.”
There were plenty of moments the Denver Nuggets organization could have given up on Michael Malone. When the team was down 3-1 against the LA Clippers in the bubble, it felt like fans had completely given up on Malone. Instead, they rallied against LA in a historic comeback and showed that resiliency for years to come, until it was time to win a championship.
