Nuggets Star Reveals Why He Does Not Use Social Media
The Denver Nuggets are a relatively quiet team on social media. Nikola Jokic doesn't use social media at all, Jamal Murray seldom uses it, and Michael Porter Jr. does not enjoy using it. Even though Porter Jr. has his own podcast, he does not use Twitter, only occasionally uses Instagram, and finally revealed why.
On a recent episode of Curious Mike, Porter Jr. revealed why he stays away from using social media.
“First, you see all this dope stuff going on,” Porter said. “You get into the comparison game or whatever, but then it’s also, as a dude, one of our struggles is females, and there’s unlimited baddies on Instagram. If I’m being 100 percent, like, if you trying to focus and stay away from, like, it can be a trap. If that’s your thing you gotta be self-aware. If that’s your thing that you can fall into you can remove it for a while, and for me it helped me focus.”
If there's one thing social media definitely is, it's a trap, Twitter especially. When an athlete uses Twitter they'll see when they're trending, both good and bad. For some players like Paul George, all it does is hurt them. For Michael Porter Jr., he just doesn't want his faith tested.
“I just think overall for me, social media and like the day and age that we live in, the cons outweigh the pros for me personally and a lot of dudes in general,” Porter said. "It depends what you want out of life and what you’re trying to reach for. Me, I’m trying to, you know, walking in my faith and trying to be a man of integrity and grow. I just feel like social media is a hindrance to that.”
There's nothing wrong with staying away from social media. The best player in the world, Nikola Jokic, doesn't use it, Kawhi Leonard doesn't use it, and neither do many other players. For a player like MPJ, it's probably best for him to stay off of it as well.
