The Denver Nuggets defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Friday night in what was a highly anticipated battle between Nikola Jokic and Victor Wembanyama. Speaking with reporters after the game, Wembanyama detailed the dynamic of respecting Jokic and embracing their battles as competitors.

"He's somebody I want to compete against for years and give 100% against," Wembanyama said of Jokic. "But also someone that I respect a lot. I hope it's going to be great battles for the future. They might go back-to-back this year."

Wembanyama revealed that the two shared an exchange during the game when Jokic was giving him some tips. With a lot of mutual respect between the two players, Jokic and Wembanyama should have some great battles over the next several seasons.

Jokic and the Nuggets are currently where Wembanyama and the Spurs want to get to. As Wembanyama mentioned, the Nuggets could certainly go back-to-back as champions this year, whereas the Spurs are still trying to find their way as a young rebuilding team.

If the Spurs are able to expedite their rebuild and put some high level players around Wembanyama in the near future, perhaps there could be some postseason battles between Jokic and the rookie phenom.

For now, the Spurs look up to the Nuggets, and are trying to reach that level of dominance and consistency in the future.
