The Denver Nuggets and Dallas Mavericks faced off on Monday night in an exciting Western Conference showdown. Two of the best teams in the league, Dallas and Denver entered this game just percentage points apart in the standings. Led by their respective superstars Nikola Jokic and Luka Doncic, Denver and Dallas have two of the very best players in the game, and they walked into the arena together:
This moment went viral, as fans enjoyed seeing the mutual respect between Doncic and Jokic. It’s not common that opponents walk into the arena together, but Doncic and Jokic are close friends, which made for a really cool pregame moment.
Doncic outplayed Jokic in this game pretty significantly, but the Nuggets were still able to defeat a Mavericks team that was missing Kyrie Irving. The injury absence of Irving comes at an unfortunate time for Dallas, as they had really begun to hit their stride prior to Dwight Powell landing on Irving’s foot. That said, the injury is not expected to keep him out for too long.
Dallas is looking to avenge what was a very disappointing season a year ago. Many people criticized their trade for Irving, and many of those same critics also criticized their decision to re-sign him. Silencing some of that noise early this year, Dallas looks to be figuring it out. They’ll likely have to go through the defending champion Nuggets they saw on Monday if they want to reach their ultimate goal.
