Bennedict Mathurin nominated for Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month for January games

Mathurin was a finalist for the award three months in a row

Despite the Indiana Pacers having a rough January in which they went 4-11, they still had a nominee for the monthly awards handed out by the NBA.

Guard Bennedict Mathurin was a finalist for the Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month award for January games. The honor ultimately went to Paolo Banchero of the Orlando Magic.

Mathurin averaged 19.5 points per game in the month and had eight games with 20+ points. He was electric on offense, and his efficiency was solid as he knocked down 44.7% of his shots.

"He shows a lot of maturity," veteran guard T.J. McConnell said of Mathurin during the month. "Big time players make big time shots in big time moments... we trust him to do that."

Mathurin won Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month in October/November and was a nominee in December. He is having a terrific rookie season and is in the mix for Sixth Man of the Year.

The 2022 sixth overall pick is averaging 17.6 points per game for the Indiana Pacers this season and has played in every game for the team.
