Indiana Pacers guard Bruce Brown is dealing with a bone bruise in his right knee and will continue to miss some time going forward.

Brown, 27, popped up on the injury report this past Saturday with the injury. It was his first absence of the season, and he was a late scratch for the game. Young ball handler Andrew Nembhard started in his place.

The Pacers lost to the Magic that night without Brown. Head coach Rick Carlisle clarified the status of the veteran guard after the game.

"He's got a knee issue," Carlisle said. "Something that has been very, very minor so it hasn't shown up on the [injury] report. Coming off of a tough back-to-back and then headed into tonight, he had a little more soreness. So he was ruled out."

Brown is averaging 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game this season. His biggest asset to the Pacers is that he very rarely makes mistakes. While his shooting hasn't been accurate all season, he takes care of the ball and is often one of the team's best options on the perimeter defensively.

Three days after missing Indiana's game against Orlando, Brown was out once again in Houston. And the injury report for the Pacers game tomorrow against the Chicago Bulls lists Brown as out once again. Clearly, it's something the Pacers want to monitor going forward.

So far, Nembhard has filled in well in Brown's absence. His skillset matches what the Pacers need in that spot, and he has been at his best in Brown's two-game absence. The blue and gold will hope that continues going forward.

"The hope is that it's minor and something that can be resolved relatively quickly," Carlisle said of Brown.

Indiana signed Brown this past offseason to up their level on both ends. He's been a starter all season long, and the blue and gold will try to get him back as soon as possible to insert him into their new lineup structure.
