Source: Indiana Pacers receive two second round draft picks in draft-night trade with Washington Wizards
The Indiana Pacers and Washington Wizards made a draft night trade that shook up the top-10 of the draft order. It was the first trade of the night.
In the deal, the Pacers sent the Wizards the seventh overall pick, which was used to select French wing Bilal Coulibaly. While Coulibaly walked across the draft stage wearing a Pacers hat, he had already been traded to the Wizards. In exchange for pick seven, Washington sent Indiana pick eight and a pair of future second-round selections. The Pacers selected Houston forward Jarace Walker eighth overall.
AllPacers has learned from a league source that the second-round selections that Indiana acquired in the deal are the Phoenix Suns second-round pick in 2028 and the Washington Wizards second rounder in 2029. Washington acquired the pick from Phoenix in the recent Bradley Beal trade.
Essentially, the Pacers got the player they wanted and were able to pick up some assets at the same time. Walker said after being chosen that he was told he was going to the Pacers before the seventh selection was made.
"I was told I was going to Indiana before Indiana's pick," he shared. That indicates he was the blue and gold's target all along, and they were able to scoop up some future draft equity while still getting their guy.
This trade was one of three made by the blue and gold before selecting any players. They also made draft pick swaps with the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers to balance their asset pool. Indiana now will turn its focus to free agency.
