Source: Indiana Pacers rookie Jarace Walker has procedure done on right elbow
Indiana Pacers rookie forward Jarace Walker underwent a procedure on his right elbow, a league source confirmed to AllPacers. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN was first reporting the news.
The procedure will remove some loose bodies in the elbow, according to Wojnarowski. Currently, the expectation is that Walker, the eighth overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft, will be available and healthy by the start of training camp in early October.
Walker just wrapped up Summer League play, where he averaged 14.3 points and 7.8 rebounds per game. He was praised for his activity and energy levels while playing for the summer Pacers, and he was effective on defense.
He struggled shooting the ball, though. He knocked down just 34.3% of his looks from the field and 17.9% of his threes. That held him back from having a nearly-perfect Summer League. It is unknown at this time how much Walker's elbow was bothering him during the exhibitions.
According to a report from Wojnarowski back in May, Walker had to miss his WME pro day due to soreness in his right elbow, the same one he is now having a procedure on. He originally injured the elbow during March Madness play for Houston and re-aggravated it in the pre-draft process.
With Summer League in the rearview mirror and the regular season more than three months away, this is an ideal time for Jarace Walker to clean up his elbow. He likely won't miss any of the most important Indiana Pacers offseason activities.
