Tyrese Haliburton hosts basketball camp in college basketball home of Ames, Iowa
Indiana Pacers star guard Tyrese Haliburton hosted a basketball camp in Ames, Iowa over the weekend.
Ames is home to Iowa State University, where Haliburton played college basketball. He spent two years with the Cyclones, where he averaged 10.1 points and 4.7 assists per game across two campaigns.
"You don't want to forget where you come from. Whether that's my hometown, whether that's where I play in the NBA or where I went to college. I just try to give back in any way I can. Really excited to be here," Haliburton said, per We Are Iowa Local 5 News.
Haliburton took off in his second season in Ames. He became an NBA-level prospect, and he boosted his scoring and distributing numbers to 15.2 and 6.5 per game, respectively. He was a lottery pick the following season.
The camp was held at Zachary Jensen Fieldhouse and was open to 2nd through 8th graders. Haliburton loves camps and wanted it to be the experience of a lifetime for attendees.
"I always wanted to, because I was never fortunate enough to go to one of these camps," Haliburton said of holding the camps, per Jake Brend.
The Pacers guard held a camp in Indianapolis earlier in the summer before a stint with Team USA. He is becoming more entrenched in the Indianapolis community after being traded to the Pacers in February of 2022. While that happens, though, he isn't forgetting about his past, and that's partially why he returned to Iowa State.
The Pacers season begins in just over one month.
