Trey Murphy III Talks Summer League, Wembanyama, NBA Players on Road Trippin' Podcast

Murphy's Key Points on Road Trippin'
Summer League Quotes
His First Summer League: Murphy chose not to go out and party in Las Vegas because where he was drafted. "My first year summer league. I didn't go out at all. I stayed in my room the whole time. Because I felt a little slighted. And like felt disrespected. I feel like I was better than the guys are drafted ahead of me. I wanted to prove that and so I made sure I eliminated all distractions."
Lakers Max Christie: "Christie looked good. Christie, he was playing within himself. Second-year guys, whenever they come into summer league, they're always just seemed like a step above the other guys." The Lakers forward averaged 32.2 MPG, 19.0 PPG, and 11.7 APG in Summer League action.
Spurs Victor Wembanyama: "I said for early on, I don't know exactly what he'll be able to do offensively because people are going to climb it to him. But defensively, he's going to be great." In two games, the No. 1 overall draft pick in 2023 averaged 27.2 minutes, 18.0 points, 10 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks.
Murphy continued on Wembanyama's defense, noting, "I thought defensively he was good. That's he's going to have a good early defensive impact this year."
"He can't lose confidence. That's a big thing too. He was picking and popping, and there's times where he was open, he didn't shoot the ball. Those are the times you have to you have to shoot the ball, you have to stay confident."
Channing Fryre asked him a difficult question about taking either Victor Wembanyama (Spurs) or Chet Holgrem (OKC) after one year, and Murphy replied, "I'm probably gonna take Chet." Why? "Chet has a little bit of grit to him."
On His Defense Versus a Non-Shooter
"Whenever I'm guarding somebody who can't shoot, my mind goes elsewhere," Trey jokingly said. "It's almost like a disrespectful type of thing."
Murphy's Visit to NBA Con 2023 in Las Vegas
"It was cool. I got to talk about fashion a lot. I talked about fashion. Yeah, fashion iconic moments. They asked me about my kind of moments in the NBA. I was like, 'I've only been in the league for two years, so give me a moment.' The one that I chose was actually the Zion 360 Windmill at the end of the Phoenix game. And I promise you the video does not do it justice. Like watching it in person. I actually fainted on the bench when it happened."
