Victor Wembanyama, Zion Williamson Will Battle In NBA Southwest Division

The NBA's first-overall draft pick will join the San Antonio Spurs to battle the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Southwest division.

The San Antonio Spurs made a big move in the 2023 NBA Draft by selecting center Victor Wembanyama as the first overall pick.  Wembanyama expressed his excitement about hearing NBA Commissioner Adam Silver announce his name. 

This pick brings a highly talented player to the Spurs, who have a rich history with five NBA championships and a legendary coach in Greg Popovich.  In contrast, the Spurs had a disappointing record last season, finishing last in the NBA Southwest division with a 22-60 record. 

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Pelicans ranked second in the division with a 42-40 record.  Fans can look forward to exciting matchups between Wembanyama and Pelican stars Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram for years to come.
